William Monroe Mullis

Mr. William Monroe “Sonny” Mullis, 85, passed away Sunday, December 4, 2016.

A funeral service is scheduled for 1:00 pm Wednesday, December 7, 2016, at Solid Rock Worship Center. Rev. Raymond Davis and Rev. Mikey Wooldridge will officiate. The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm – 12:45 pm Wednesday at Solid Rock Worship Center.

Mr. Mullis was born August 16, 1931 in Cabarrus County. He was a son of the late Joe William Mullis and Pearl Irene Stirewalt Mullis.

He worked at Cannon Mills Plant #1 for 45 years as a dinky driver, maintenance technician and card technician. He was Deacon at Solid Rock Worship Center, where he was a member. He was previously a member of Mt. Mitchell United Methodist Church. In the past, he was a volunteer fireman at Mt. Mitchell Fire Department. Sonny loved the time he spent with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. His faith in God and his Church family were very important to him. He loved helping and talking to people about Jesus. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, yard work and fixing lawn mowers. He has been in declining health for two years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Walter Mullis; sisters, Martha Mullis and Mabel Morris; and step-mother, Maggie Mullis.

Mr. Mullis is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ruby Mullis; daughter, Linda Lowder and husband Dwight of Kannapolis; sons, Jimmy Mullis and wife Angie of Kannapolis and William Mullis and wife Lisa of Ruby, SC; brother, Jerry Mullis of Mt. Pleasant; sisters, Joann Bowman of Kannapolis, Betty Crowley of Concord, Kay Gearing and husband Herman of Kannapolis, Jean Tucker of Kannapolis; three grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren.
