He was the son of the late [tooltip content=”Database Info” url=”http://ourbigclan.com/tng/getperson.php?personID=I4747&tree=1000″ ]Patrick [/tooltip] and [tooltip content=”Database Info” url=”http://ourbigclan.com/tng/getperson.php?personID=I1880&tree=1000″ ]Jessie Mullis Burns[/tooltip]. He was raised in Carrboro and a graduate of Chapel Hill High School and also proudly served in the U.S. Air Force. Rodney had a passion for boating, fishing, motorcycles, and most importantly, his family.
He leaves behind children, Rodney Burns Jr. and wife, Mauri, of Conover, Brandon Burns, of Raleigh, Brittany Burns and fiance, Brett Leyburn, of Durham; and three grandsons Brycen, Garrett, and Curtis.
He is the brother of Anne Tyson and husband, Dick, of Apex, Catherine Mann and husband, Lloyd, of Youngsville, Tim (Bucky) Burns and wife, Carol, of Henderson, Connie Natley, of Birmingham, Alabama, David Burns and wife, Patti, of Vass, and June Haley and husband, Bob, of Raleigh. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Patrick, Tommy, and Wayne. He is survived by numerous nephews and nieces.
Family request memorial contributions be sent to the Duke Children’s Hospital.
The family will receive friends at his home in Henderson on Saturday, October 30, 2010 at 2 p.m.
