Tal Mullis, a long time resident of Gainesville & Melrose, died peacefully last Friday at his home surrounded by his family.
He is survived by his wife Nelle Mullis, daughters Julie Herring & Jenny Mullis, son-in law Rick Herring, grandchildren Decker and Annette Herring, mother Jewel Mullis, sister Katherine Terry, brother Jim Mullis, and was husband to Annette Mullis for 37 years until her death.
In his freshman year he played football for the then “baby” (j.v.) Gators, was a member of the Army Special Forces (paratroopers), a graduate of UF for his undergrad and masters degrees, and received his PhD from the Union Graduate School @ Antioch College In Ohio. As a life-long educator he taught in places as varied as Starke, Fl. to Germany & Ethiopia. He was employed at SFCC from its founding in 1966, served in many capacities: Counselor, Instructor, Dean, and retired in 1993 as Vice President.

Alzheimer’s Association 2411 NW 41 St. 32606.
A memorial service will be held at the Mullis lake house on little Lake Swan, 107 Cygnet Lane, Melrose on March 21st, at 2pm.
