The Rev. John Clyburn Mullis Sr., age 75, of 405 Woodland Drive, Lancaster, died Friday, Sept. 24, 2004, in Palmetto Health Richland Hospital, Columbia.

Born in Anson County, N.C., he was a son of the late Carl Wilson Mullis Sr. and Letchie Inez Phillips Mullis. The Rev. Mullis was a 1950 graduate of The Citadel and Tennessee Temple Seminary, Chattanooga, Tenn. The Rev. Mullis had served as pastor for various churches in South Carolina, including Elgin Baptist, Beaver Creek Baptist, New Hope Baptist in Cross Anchor, Lockhart First Baptist Church and Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. He served as associate pastor of Union First Baptist Church and had served as interim pastor for several churches in Lancaster and Chester counties and was active in the Moriah Baptist Association, Lancaster.

The Rev. Mullis is survived by his wife, Macy Harris Mullis, of Lancaster; three sons, John C. Mullis Jr. and his wife, Kathy, of Union, Robert W. Mullis and his wife, Etta, of Taylors, and Tim Mullis and his wife, Kathy, of Easley; a daughter, Patricia Smith, and her husband, Johnny, of Rock Hill; a brother, Victor Mullis, of Columbia; and a sister, Charlotte M. Shaw, of Lancaster; nine grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday from Second Baptist Church, by the Rev. Dr. James D. Spencer III. Interment will be in Westside Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Mahaffey Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. today.
