WINSTON-SALEM – Mrs. Pauline Gertrude Burke Mullis, 81, a longtime resident of Winston-Salem, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 27, 2009 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born in Forsyth County to William Robert and Lillie Gertrude Berry Burke. For most of her life, she was a member of Temple Baptist Church, where she played the organ and taught Sunday school for many years. At the time of her death, she was a member of Northwest Baptist Church. Mrs. Mullis was a graduate of Hanes High School (Class of ’46). She was employed with Wachovia Bank until her children were born. She was an avid bowler for years and enjoyed her Wednesday Morning Fun League at Northside Lanes until a period of declining health. Mrs. Mullis was devoted to her family. She loved her husband, children, and grandchildren. She also loved keeping up with her friends. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her daughter, Julie Beth Mullis; infant grandson, Robert Bird Mullis; and a brother, William Roland Burke. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Starret Worth “Buck” Mullis; son, Robert Bradley Mullis (Ellyn) of Statesville; and grandchildren, Sally Margaret Mullis and Charles Starret Mullis of Statesville. A Celebration of Life Service will be Wednesday, December 30, 2009, 11 a.m., at Northwest Baptist Church with the Reverend Brandon Hudson and the Reverend Robert Blackburn officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday, December 29, 2009, 6-8 p.m., at Vogler and Sons Reynolda Chapel. Interment will be at Forsyth Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Northwest Baptist Church, 407 Petree Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27106.
