DOVER-FOXCROFT–Jonathan Robert Mullis, 7, died December 30, 2009, at home surrounded by his family, after a nearly two year-long battle with brain cancer. Jonathan was born Feb. 2, 2002, in Dover-Foxcroft, the son of Brian and Elizabeth (Davids) Mullis.

Jonathan was a second grade student at SeDoMoCha Elementary School. He loved school, especially science, recess, music and physical education. Jonathan was a boy who loved building with Legos, playing board games, spending time at his family camp in Sangerville, eating vanilla Oreos, golfing with his Grampy Bob at Whitetail, and being with his family and friends.

In April 2008, Jonathan was diagnosed with a brain tumor. He taught us the true meaning of the word courage. Jonathan’s positive attitude became such an inspiration to all of us as we supported him through his illness. Jonathan quickly won the hearts of all who cared for him. Our thanks go to the staffs of Mayo Regional Hospital, Eastern Maine Medical Center, and Dana Farber Cancer Institute for the care, compassion and support shown to our family.

In addition to his parents of Dover-Foxcroft, Jonathan is survived by his sister, Rachel “Roo” Mullis; his maternal grandparents, Robert and Eleanor Davids of St. Albans; his paternal grandparents, Jay and Dorothy MacDonald of Corinna; his aunt and uncle, Bill Davids and Xenia Rofes and his two special cousins, Leila and Silvia Davids; and his great aunts and uncles, Dalton and Donna Mullis, Brent and Patty Mullis, and George and Holly Mullis and their families. Jonathan was predeceased by his paternal grandfather, Myron Mullis.

Jonathan was a great friend to many. He will be sadly missed by his family, friends, classmates, teachers and community. Rest in peace, Jonathan. We love you.

Jonathan was an excellent reader. He loved books and he loved the library. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Thompson Free Library, 186 E Main Street, Dover-Foxcroft 04426.

Friends and family called from 2 – 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2009, at the Lary Funeral Home, Dover-Foxcroft. A private spring burial will be in the family lot in Dover Cemetery.
