Emily S. Mullis


Mrs. Mullis, 78, of Charlotte, NC, died may 7, 2009 at her residence.


She was born March 25, 1931 in Union County, North Carolina, one of six children to the late Dwight F. Snyder and Everil Deese Snyder. She devoted her life to her husband and her family. She had a great love and desire to care for and nurture babies and small children. Mrs. Mullis was a two year cancer survivor and loved to make blankets for everyone, including small children and hurricane victims. She literally made thousands of blankets that she would give to anyone.


She retired after more than 30 years from Owens-Illinois, Inc. as a quality control inspector.


The Mullis family will greet friends Sunday, May 10, 2009 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at McEwen Funeral Service at Sharon Memorial Park. A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Mullis will be held 2:00 p.m., Monday, May 11, at McEwen Sharon Chapel. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens.


Mrs. Mullis is survived by her six children, W. Blake Mullis Jr. and wife, Linda of North Augusta, SC, Susan Anne Thompson and husband, Johnny of Lexington, SC, Jean Ramsey and husband, Cleland of Cherryville, NC, James Mullis and wife, Theresa of Iron Station, NC, Margaret ‘Beth’ Mullis of Charleston, SC and Tabitha Anne Brown of Albemarle, NC; 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; brother, David Snyder of Charlotte, NC; and a sister, Lib Sexton of Portsmouth, VA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren B. Mullis, Sr.; a grandson, Little Johnny Thompson; two sisters; and a brother.


Memorials may be made to The Levine Children’s Hospital at Carolinas Medical Center in memory of Emily Mullis.
