GREENVILLE — Mrs. Mullis died peacefully at the residence on February 19, 2006. She was surrounded by her family and close friends after succumbing to a lengthy but valiant battle with cancer. Carol confronted her illness as she did life: with spirit, determination and selflessness.
She was born May 7, 1950 in Lenoir, NC to William Lee and the late Ruth Sherman Tysinger. Carol attended Lenoir High School and was a dedicated member of the Lenoir High School Band, where she met and later married Steve, her husband of 38 years. Carol centered her life on family and close friends. In addition to her father and husband, she is survived by two sons, Ronald Steven Mullis, Jr. and wife, Amanda B., of Greenville, and Phillip Tysinger Mullis and girlfriend, Gwen Harris, of Greenville; two brothers, William Stuart Tysinger and wife, Neena C., of Lenoir, their daughters, Lauren Rae and Kalyn Marie, and John Sherman Tysinger and wife, Karen W., of Hickory, NC, their sons, Andrew Michael and Timothy Ryan; granddaughters, Mikayla Marie Mullis of Bonita Springs, FL and Alayna Caroline Mullis of Greenville; grandsons, Austin Clay Simmons, Cory Bryant Simmons and John Chandler Mullis, all of Greenville.
After moving to Greenville from Matthews, NC in 1993, Carol joined the Tar River Community Band, with whom she played flute. She quickly made friends in the dental and health care communities, through the band, her husband’s employment, and Hooker Memorial Christian Church, where she was a member. Carol had an incredible energy and vibrancy, always sharing her enthusiasm and laughter with those around her. She enjoyed her grandchildren, gardening and traveling with family to the Caribbean. Carol will be greatly missed by all those who knew her.
A memorial service will be held at Hooker Memorial Christian Church on Tuesday, February 21, 2006 at 3:00 PM. The family will receive friends at the home following this service. A celebration of life will be held at St. James Episcopal Church in Lenoir, NC on Saturday, February 25, 2006 at 2:00 PM. The family encourages donations to Hooker Memorial Christian Church (General Fund) or to St. James Episcopal Church (General Fund) in lieu of flowers.
