Margie Swearingen Mullis

Mrs. Margie Swearingen Mullis, 91, wife of the late Norman Mullis, entered into rest on Monday, December 28th, 2015, in the comfort of her home.

Born in and a lifelong resident of Aiken County, SC, she was a daughter of the late Clifford and Bertha Gregg Swearingen.

She retired from the Augusta Chronicle, where she was a Switchboard Operator. Following her retirement from the Chronicle, she became a Teacher’s Aide at Belvedere Elementary School. Mrs. Mullis was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church. She enjoyed reading and working crossword puzzles. More than anything however, she enjoyed spending time with her family. Prior to her health declining, she would walk daily to Hardees and the Post Office.

In addition to her husband and parents, family members include a daughter, Bertha “Snookie” O’Briant, Belvedere, SC; grandchildren, Angela O’Briant Wise, Gina O’Briant and Davina Power, great-grandchildren, Fawn Gordon, Sarah Wise and Ethan Power and great-great-grandchildren, Mahkel Bush and Raven Gordon.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday, December 30th, 2015, at 3 o’clock in the chapel of Hatcher Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Langley, SC, with Pastor Bill Branch officiating. Interment will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Bath, SC.

If so desired, memorials may be made to Helping Hands (www.helpinghandsaiken.org) or the Alzheimer’s Association. (www.alz.org) The family will greet friends on Tuesday from 6 until 8 o’clock at  Hatcher Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Langley, SC.
