Mrs. Moena Johnson Mullis, age 93, died on Sunday September 27, 2015 at her residence under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice.
She was a native of Alamo, GA. She was known as Mema to everyone she met; loved people and touched many lives.
A preachers’ wife, she and her late husband (who was never late) Elder W.A. Mullis served in different churches in the Primitive Baptist Denomination including; Flint River, Cordele, Glazner, Mt. Olive, and Olney Primitive Baptist Churches. She earned a BBA in education from Bessie Tift College in Forsyth after attending ABAC in Tifton for two years, she taught elementary school for over 25 years. Mrs. Mullis was the 1976 Teacher of the Year for Upson County. After retirement she moved to Bulloch County in 1983. She received a 2012 Deen Day Smith Award and was a member of the Brooklet Primitive Baptist Church. She was a volunteer for 15 years at East Georgia Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Mullis was a member of the Bulloch County Homemakers and the Bulloch County Retired Teachers Association.
In addition to her late husband she was preceded in death by a son-in-law Mike Brannen and a grandson Michael Mullis.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law Elder Billy and Teresa Mullis of Waycross, GA; a daughter Julie Mullis Brannen of Statesboro, GA; five grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren also survive.
A visitation will be held on Monday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at Brooklet Primitive Baptist Church with Elders W. H. Durrence, Steve Taylor and Lavonne Anderson officiating.
The body will lie in state from 9:30 a.m. until the funeral hour.
Interment will be held on Tuesday at 5:00 p.m at Flint River Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Thomaston, GA.
Pallbearers will be Gene Johnson, Lynn Johnson, Tony Jackson, Brooks Strickland, Jerry Forsyth, John B. Lanier, Joe Futch and John Smith.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Primitive Baptist Preachers and their wives.
