Mabel F. Lucas, age 86, of Bloomington, went to be with the Lord Sunday afternoon at Bloomington Hospital with her loving family at her side. Born February 16, 1924 in Monroe County, she was the daughter of Thomas and Viola (Hardin) Mullis.
She was a caregiver for many children in her home and was affectionately called “Granny”. She was a 46 year member of Landmark Church in Bloomington as well as a faithful wife and mother, having cared for her husband and two daughters during their illnesses and before their passing away. She was a good cook and formerly loved to garden.
She is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law; Sue Terrell, of Unionville and Anna and Larry Johnson, of Brooksville, Florida; one son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Helen Lucas, of Bedford; eight grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, V. Harold Lucas, two daughters, Kathy Evans and Wilma Chandler, four brothers, Ellsworth Mullis, Howard Mullis, Charles Mullis and Willie Mullis, one sister, Rosie Stalcup and one grandson, Ronald Chandler.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday at 2:00 P.M. at Day Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Mahurin officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Gilead Cemetery. Friends may visit the family on Wednesday from 2:00 to 9:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
