Joe Mullis, 83, of Lake Delancy went to be with the Lord Monday, May 8, 2017 at Haven Hospice Roberts Care Center following a brief illness.
Joe was born at home on High Street in Palatka and lived here until he retired and moved to Lake Delancy 21 years ago. He was a 1952 graduate of the Palatka High School where he was elected class Vice President during his Senior year. He served for ten years in Florida National Guard in Palatka. In 1996 he retired as an environmental technician at Georgia Pacific Corp. in Palatka after 43 years of service. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Salt Springs where he had taught in the Men’s Sunday School Class. He was a longtime member of Palatka Lodge #86, Free and Accepted Masons. He was a former member of Palatka Jaycees where he had served as president of the club. He had served as a volunteer at Rodehaver Boys Ranch for 30 years, most recently in the Vehicle Improvement Program. He served as a legislative aide for then Rep. Jim Glisson. Joe enjoyed fishing, woodworking and NASCAR.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Lonnie and Elsie Mullis; a step-mother, Polly Mullis; four sisters, Betty Mae Wilson, Jeanine Foster, Marjorie Foster, and Ella Mullis; and a brother, David Mullis.
Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Jane Mullis of Lake Delancy; three daughters and sons-in-law, Becky Mullis Jordan of Palatka, Deanie and Eddie Diver of Palatka, and Donna Jo and Johnny Adams of Lake Delancy; a sister and brother-in-law, Alicia and Frank Bush of Palatka; four grandchildren and spouses, Ashley and Chad Shyrock of Palatka, Hannah and Justin Wofford of Jacksonville, C.J. Jordan of Palatka, and Joe Adams of Palatka; two great granddaughters, Samantha Story and Sara Story; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 10th at Masters Funeral Home in Palatka. Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 11th at First Baptist Church of Salt Springs with Rev. Eric Gervais officiating.
