Jesse James Mullis, 16, of 521 Sycamore, Quincy, died at 3:25 p.m. Saturday (April 20, 2013) in his home.
Born Oct. 14, 1996, in Springfield, Jesse was a son of Ralph B. and Lana Charlton Mullis Jr. A sophomore at Quincy High School, Jesse was an avid sports fan who loved baseball, football, NASCAR, wrestling and roller derby. His favorite teams were the St. Louis Cardinals, St. Louis Rams and Kansas City Chiefs and his favorite NASCAR driver was Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jesse also loved social media, especially Facebook. An inspiration to all who knew him, Jesse never let the fact that he had spina bifida slow him down. As a youth, Jesse played t-ball with the Quincy Park District and showed others his courage and determination to participate in life.
Survivors include his mother, Lana Mullis of Quincy; a sister, Lanea Bloyd (Donnie) of Quincy; three brothers, Ralph Brandon Mullis (Sarah) of Quincy, and Ralph Benson Mullis III and James C. Mullis, both of Texas; maternal grandmother, Dorothy Charlton of Hannibal, Mo.; maternal great-grandmother, Dorothy Oltman of Hannibal; eight nephews and nieces, Tyler Mullis, Gia Bloyd, Zoe Bloyd, Jenni Mullis, Jayden Mullis, Cheyenne Mullis, Dillan Sibbing Mullis and Gabe Bloyd; and many loving aunts, uncles and cousins, including Laura Sue Wright (Richard), Roger Winningham and Steven Charlton.
Jesse was preceded in death by his father; maternal grandfather, John Robert Charlton; paternal grandparents, Ralph Benson Mullis Sr. and Wilma Powell Clement; maternal great-grandparents, John H. Oltman and Victor and Mary Charlton; paternal great-grandparents, William and Goldie Powell; and two uncles, Dennis Winningham and John Allen Charlton.
SERVICES: Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in Quincy Memorial Park conducted by Pastor Rick Chapman. VISITATION: noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home.
