NEWPORT NEWS – Jerry D. Mullis, Sr. of Newport News, VA, 73, was called home March 31, 2016.
He was the loving and devoted husband of Carrie Hucks Mullis, with whom he shared 30 wonderful years of marriage.
Born in Thomasville, NC on June 14, 1942 to Paul and Dixie Mullis.
He was an active member of New Hope Pentecostal Holiness Church where he served as deacon for several years. Jerry was an NCO in the US Airforce serving two tours in Vietnam. In 2006, he retired from the Federal Government after 39 years of service.
In addition to his wife, Carrie, he is survived by his six children, Jerry Don, Jr., Janet and Bryan Dunn, Jeannie and Matt Knight, John and Kim Mullis, Marty and Sandy Cox, Susan and Danny Jones; his sister, Judy Dombrowski; seventeen grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by seven brothers and both parents.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at Peninsula Funeral Home, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 6 at 1:00 p.m. at New Hope Pentecostal Holiness Church, 80 Groome Road, Newport News, VA, officiated by Pastor Larry Jones. Interment will follow at Albert G. Horton Jr, Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk, VA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the New Hope Pentecostal Holiness Church or a charity of your choice .
