James “Jim” Mullis, 72, of Mint Hill, NC, passed away Sunday, the 9th of April 2017 at Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center.
Jim was born the 14th of June 1944 in Murphy, NC, one of three children to the late Olen Houston Mullis and Clarice Deese Mullis. He was a 1962 graduate of East Mecklenburg High School and received his undergraduate and then later his Masters in History from Appalachian State University. Jim taught at Olympic High School for ten years and later served with the Transportation Division of Charlotte-Mecklenburg School System. He was an active member of Christ Life Church, Matthews, NC.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Debbie Mullis of Mint Hill, NC; daughter, Shelby Barbee and her husband, Jeremy of Oakboro, NC; two grandchildren: Allison and Carson Barbee; one brother, Jerry Mullis (Jean) of Knoxville, TN and a sister, Lanita Plummer (Danny) of Albemarle, NC; nieces and nephews: Jennifer Motes (Greg), Jessica Stannard (Damon), David Mullis, Kip Plummer(Nita) and Kelly Plummer (Lauren).
The Mullis family will greet friends Thursday, the 13th of April 2017 from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM at The Hub “Christ Life Church”, 1641 Matthews Township Pkwy, Suite B, Matthews, NC. A service to celebrate his life will be held 2:00 PM, Friday, the 14th of April 2017 at Mission Community Church, 8625 Providence Rd, Charlotte, NC with Pastor Syd Maness officiating.
