MALTA – Jack Virgil Mullis, 81, of Malta, Ill., passed away peacefully Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2013, at Pine Acres Rehab & Living Center, DeKalb.
Born July 25, 1932, in DeKalb, the son of Virgil J. and Bernice (Knudtson) Mullis, Jack married Betty J. Willrett on Aug. 24, 1952, at Malta Methodist Church.
Jack was a farmer and building contractor and was a member of Evangelical Free Church of Sycamore-DeKalb, where he served as an elder. He also served on the Hinckley-Big Rock School Board, Pierce Cemetery Board and Crossroad Christian Youth Center Board, and was a member of DeKalb County Farm Bureau and The Gideons International.
He is survived by his wife, Betty; children, Barbara Coleman of Normal, Jayne (Doug) Harris of Princeton, Ky., Paul Mullis of Malta, Sharon (David) Sisk of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Thomas (Sally) Mullis of DeKalb; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Ronald Mullis of Sedona, Ariz.; two sisters, Char (Pete) Johnson of DeKalb and Merilee (Don) Slick of Mount Carroll; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, DeLaine Mullis; and two sisters, Mildred Williams and Joanne Stroyan.
The funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 16, at Evangelical Free Church of Sycamore-DeKalb, 150 Bethany Road, DeKalb, with the Rev. Martin Jones and the Rev. Mike Morrell officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Park Cemetery, DeKalb. The visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15, at Anderson Funeral Home, DeKalb.
