Harold Donald Mullis, Sr.

Harold Donald Mullis, Sr. at age 82 passes away quietly Tuesday, 06-26-2012 at10:19 pm. He was born at home on November 15, 1929 in Lee County, Jonesboro, NC, and the youngest of nine children to Mr. and Mrs. Henry Bunyan Mullis. He grew up in Lee County. Upon moving to Chapel Hill at age 16 he embraced the Tarheel spirit. He was a graduate of Chapel Hill High School and worked for 35 years at Fowlers Food Store. At age 21 he joined the Jaycees and Junior Chamber of Commerce. He enjoyed cooking for various Fraternity events and other local intellectual members of the Chapel Hill community. He was honorably discharged in 1953 after five years of service in the U.S. Navy Reserves.

In addition to his parents, Annie Pearl Godfrey Mullis and Henry Bunyan Mullis, four brothers, Andy, Heath, Jim, and Tom, and three sisters, Jessie, Loree, and Mary precede him in death. He is survived by his brother Ruldoph, and his daughter Cynthia and husband Charles Echols, daughter Joy and husband Butch Duckworth, son Harold (Jr) and wife Doris, and son David and wife Cindi, and nine grandchildren, Heidi, Charles, Jessica, Will, Kari, Stephanie, Stephen, Kimberly, Kurt and eleven great grandchildren. He was a trusted friend to many and will be missed.A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, June 28, 2012 at 6:00pm in the Chapel of Walkers Funeral Home, Franklin St, Chapel Hill. A private Committal Service will be held Friday by the family.
