Cope, Lunie Bell Mullis

dd2d12e8-6a88-45d8-8f63-7bc39364e374MOUNT HOLLY – Lunie Bell Mullis Cope, 95, of 101 Mauney Street, died June 20, 2011, at her home.

She was born in Gaston County, and was the last of 11 children of the late Jessie Monroe and Laura Jane Auten Mullis.

She was wife of the late John Henry Cope and was preceded in death by one son, Hoyt Cope and daughter-in-law Babe Wilson Cope. She was also preceded in death by her twin sister, Eunie Campbell and six other sisters, Ethel and Thelma Mullis, Elsie Cherry, Sadie Hudspeth, Myrtle Honeycutt and Evelyn Crawford and three brothers, Johnnie, Wilmer and Charles (Bud) Mullis. She was a long time member of Calvary Baptist Church. She was known for her kind heart and loving spirit. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother who will be greatly missed. She is survived by one son, Nelson Cope and wife Janet of Mount Holly; two daughters, Hilda Moore and husband Doyle of Mount Holly, Betty Jo Barker and husband Eddie of Mount Holly; daughter-in-law, Nancy Cope of Lincolnton, 13 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Cope will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Calvary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Fred A. Helms, officiating.

Burial will follow at Hillcrest Gardens Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Woodlawn Funeral Home in Mount Holly.

Memorials may be made to the Church Fellowship Building Fund, Calvary Baptist Church, 207 Louise Avenue, Mount Holly, NC 28120 or to Hospice of Gaston County, P.O. Box 3984, Gastonia, NC 28053.
