MUNCIE — A Selma man using a snow shovel to allegedly rob a
Village Pantry near the downtown did not get far early Sunday.
A pizza delivery man chased the suspect, later identified as
Kirk L. Mullis Jr., 28, Selma, as he left the pantry at 601 W.
Jackson St., around 12:30 a.m. Sunday.
The pantry clerk reported the suspect came into the store and
demanded money, armed with a red snow shovel, according to a
probable cause affidavit. When the alleged robber left, the
delivery worker chased him down and held him with the clerk until
police arrived. The robber took only a handful of cash.
Mullis was preliminarily charged with armed robbery, a class B
felony, and battery, a class B misdemeanor. He remained in jail
Monday.
The West Jackson Street pantry has been a robbery target in
recent years, according to police.
